Warm and Cold Seasons-Months for Diabetics
Insulin intake/dosages and compensation
Hopefully, you (Diabetics) have been adjusting your insulin levels and how much you take.
Warm
If you don’t already know, in the warmer months your blood sugar levels seem to be lower, more level even keeled (because of many reasons especially if you have a positive somewhat physical emotionally stable lifestyle), and possibly/usually/sometimes give less insulin because of it. In conclusion, I think, it’s easier to manage Diabetes in the warmer season because of many factors that are involved; mainly positive. As always test your blood sugar often. The one major thing to watch for and be aware of is hypotension and low blood sugars. Always keep something with carbohydrates and natural sugar with you and/or glucose tablets and glycogen shots as long as someone is around to give it if need be.
Cold
In the colder months, your body (Diabetic’s body) does the opposite. Blood sugars tend to run higher and you have to give more insulin as a result of it. In conclusion, I think it’s more challenging to manage Diabetes in the colder season because of many factors that are involved; most negative. As always test your blood sugar often.
Cold and Me
If you are like me in the winter, where you live in a cold climate during the season of winter, you do run more high, you have poor circulation, and you are less physically active because of many reasons; you have some form of neuropathy where you are cold more often than not, you aren’t as happy because you can’t/don’t get outside as much to do things, you are a “snow bird”, you are waiting for warm weather, and whatever other reasons it may be. You may even have Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) which is a form of depression due to a certain time of year/season. Check with your doctor, health care professional, and team about that.
The C’s
Therefore, whether you are running more high, low, or an extreme variety of the two, get in control! You don’t want to be a roller coaster because it is not good for you and the people around you. Yes, it is hard to keep blood glucose levels in control and in a certain range but you have to try your hardest to do it because only you can do it and look after yourself because if you don’t, who else will? You are the best critical, disciplinary person for yourself so keep yourself in check constantly, yes, it’s constant work, should I say it again, constant, constant, constant, constant, constant, constant, constant, constant, constant, constant, constant, constant, and CONTROL, COPING, CONNECTING, and CARBOHYDRATES are the big C’s to manage.
Please, do this for YOURSELF. Get the motivation, self-esteem, and positive will power to make the effort every second of every minute of everyday of your life. Whatever you have to do, to get there, do it. It’s your life, you only have one, so make the best of it by being the healthiest you can for as long as you can.
It sucks but don’t EVER stop because IT never will
Diabetes is terrible and it sucks no matter which way you put it. Just like any other disease, illness, sickness, disorder, or disability. But it’s not going away so yes, you can get emotional about it, be/get mad, angry, frustrated, and cry about it because we all have those days. In all, though, keep going, battle, fight, and don’t stop fighting because we are people, strong people, we may not have asked for this especially Type 1 Diabetes, but we have and need to deal, cope, and manage.
