Diabetes and Hair loss
Why am I losing hair?
Every time I take a shower I get huge clumps/piles of hair that come out of my scalp. I could keep pulling and pulling and get more in my hand. I mean, when I just wash my hair regularly with shampoo and conditioner, it falls out then, too. It’s quite annoying to be honest and I’m not sure what the specific most accurate reasoning is for this to be happening.
I’ve read, researched, and heard from other diabetics some reasons and these are some of the reasons why this may be happening to you:
1. Stress from the disease
2. Improper blood flow and poor blood circulation
3. Thyroid problems (thyroid disease) and/or uncontrolled diabetes
4. Poor nutrition (something missing from diet)
5. Genetically predisposed and hereditary (androgenetic alopecia)
6. Hair treatments and styling (pulling hair too tight or keeping it tightly wrapped in braids etc.)
7. Certain medications (isotretinoin and lithium for bipolar disorder, diet pills, and of course chemotherapy)
